Enterprise mobility is fast becoming the norm, not the exception, for best-in-class companies across industries, and is simultaneously driving a completely new phase in the digital transformation of companies. An Aberdeen Group study found that companies are moving rapidly to overcome this latest challenge, transforming their information technology infrastructure to accept enterprise mobility, analytics and cloud computing.
But there should be little doubt that engineering the mobile enterprise is the main focus. Best-in-class companies are mobilizing their employees at 22% rate, compared to less than 11% for other companies. And likewise best-in-class companies are keeping close watch on the expenses involved in transformation, keeping their budgets at or below that which average and laggard companies use to mobilize.
This newest digital transformation has today’s Chief Information Officer on edge. Much like prior eras of technology disruptions they must completely rethink and transform core technologies, skill sets, and business processes, especially with regard to the game-changing mobile environment for employees, customers, and partners.
Mobility is a driving factor, but it is not the only dynamic. Mobile device proliferation is combining with sophisticated real-time analytics and cloud delivery services. Customers have extremely high expectations for their user experience. The modern workforce expects workplace tools to keep pace in efficiency and user friendliness with what is available to them as technology service consumers. So speed and function become paramount in the execution of every business activity, whether it is product delivery, sharing smart data, or getting new mobile apps up, running, and synchronized with existing ERP systems.
Achieving success in this environment requires the CIO to engineer a digital transformation strategy that manages costs and ensures effectiveness from day one, leveraging existing investments in enterprise management systems. Companies that can use their technology investments to harness the dynamism of mobility can create entirely new ways of delivering products and services and overall business value inside their own four walls and externally with business partners and customers.
